Den Sidste Olie – ‘The Last Rites’
Den Sidste Olie – ‘The Last Rites’ – is a contemporary opera written by the award-winning composer Niels Rønsholdt and directed by Louise Beck. The opera premiered during Copenhagen Opera Festival in August 2022. It was nominated for the prestigious Reumert Theatre Award in May 2023.
We created a visual identity and digital campaign for the opera with brand elements, social media and marketing assets, animation and the libretto.
The Story
“The last rites' is a chamber opera which deals with exploitation as the driving force in the world. The story begins in 1721 – the year of the colonisation of Greenland. It unfolds the theme of the eternal over-exploitation of territories and people.
The brand new Copenhagen Ice Skating Rink forms the framework of a monumental, sensuous and chilled opera experience where the audience and artists alike are to experience the ice in all its forms. The cold and the score will slowly envelop, and the fatal story of a man who ventures out to conquer new land is brought to life”.
